This is a 16″ viola, copy of a Stephano Scarampella instrument I have had the pleasure to work on.
A large viola that feels surprisingly easy to get around, it also sounds HUGE!!!
Even if slightly slimmer than the original it retains a deep sounding C string that one wishes to hear more often on violas…
It was built with no inside mould, in an early Brescian manner, with a nice Scottish maple one piece back.
Made in an antiqued style there is a neckgraft, peg bushings and a button ebony crown.
Nice red-brown varnish on a cinnamon coloured ground.
